PERMANENT SECRETARY – Dr. Jemilade Longe

Permanent SecretaryDr. Jemilade Longe has a BSc. in Health Science and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor in Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria).  Additional qualifications of Master in Public Health and Master in Business Administration (Finance) were obtained from the University of Lagos.

Dr Longe has since 1996 held various top management positions in the Lagos State Ministry of Health.  He was at various times the Procurement Officer of the Health System Fund (HSF) Project (World Bank Assisted) and the Project Manager, Health System Development Project II (World Bank / African Development Bank Assisted).  He was the pioneer Head, Planning Division and has had postings as Director Family Health & Nutrition, Director Disease Control and Director Primary Health Care Board during which time he was the technical arrowhead and actualizer of the State Primary Health Care Revitalization Program.  He was on February 27, 2015 appointed Permanent Secretary Health Service Commission by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, with his charge including oversight function over all Lagos State public secondary health care facilities.

Dr. Longe has had extensive local and international training and development programs exposure, some of which were organized by Harvard School of Public Health (Boston Massachusetts, USA), Global Health Council (Washington DC, USA), Japanese International Cooperation Agency (Tokyo, Japan), Economic Development Institute of the World Bank (Washington DC, USA), Crown Agents International (Worthing, UK), Galilee College (Israel), World Bank Country Office (Abuja, Nigeria), Lagos Business School (Lagos Nigeria), African Development Institute of the African Development Bank Group (Abuja, Nigeria), and UNDP Nigeria Country Office / National Planning Commission (Nigeria).

He has distinguished himself in various ad hoc responsibilities held at both the state and federal levels.  He was the Protem Secretary on the Committee on Emergency / Disaster Management in Lagos State with a special achievement being the development of the Lagos State Emergency Contingency Plan.  Dr. Longe was appointed as a Consultant to sit on the National Health Sector Reform Program (HSRP) Committee set up by the Honourable Minister of Health in 2004.  He was the pioneer Editor-in-Chief of the Lagos State Ministry of Health Newsletter (NewsWorld).  He served meritoriously as a member of the Lagos State Committee on Maternal and Child Mortality Reduction Program and Committee on the Development of the State Health Insurance.

Jemilade is a devout Christian and is married to Ogheneovo Longe.  The union is blessed with three (3) children.  His strength includes being a team player, a bridge builder and an unrepentant apostle of ‘perfection’.
