DIRECTOR, MEDICAL SERVICE – Dr. Olugbenga Oyekan
Dr. Olugbenga Oyekan is the Director, Medical Services (DMS) at the Lagos State Health Service Commission. He is a seasoned medical practitioner and a Consultant Radiologist.
Dr. Oyekan hails from Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State. He attended St. Peters Primary School, Ake, Abeokuta where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He then attended African Church Grammar School Ibara, Abeokuta and obtained his Ordinary Level School Certificate. He later enrolled with Ogun State Polytechnic in Abeokuta in 1982 and obtained his Advanced Level Certificate.
He proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he studied Medicine and Surgery and was awarded Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1987. He carried out his postgraduate training program in Radiology at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital(LASUTH) and became a fellow of the National Post Graduate College of Nigeria in 2005. He has also attended international development training programs in the field of Radiology such as Advanced Diagnostic Radiology at the University tsklinikum MadgeburgA.Ö.R, Center for Radiology, clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Germany and training in Advanced Cardiovascular Radiology at JROP institute of Echocardiography, U/S and Vascular Doppler Echo and Colour Doppler Centerin India.
Dr. Oyekan commenced his career in the civil service of Lagos state as a medical officer in 1996. He rose in his career to the position of Consultant Special Grade I ,working through hospital units which include Harvey Road Health Centre, Ebute Metta Health Centre ,General Hospital Orile-Agege, General Hospital Ikorodu and General Hospital Odan, Lagos Island. He was Head of Department, Radiology Unit at General Hospital Odan, Lagos Island before his appointment as Director Medical Services, Health Service Commission in December 2020.
He is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Lagos chapter and the Association of Radiologists in Nigeria.
Dr. Oyekan enjoys playing Chess. He is a Christian by religion. He is happily married with children.
