ROTARY CLUB DONATES NEONATAL BUILDING TO IFAKO-IJAYE GENERAL HOSPITAL
The Rotary Club of Omole Golden, on Wednesday, commissioned a newly built structure donated to the Ifako-Ijaye General Hospital to enhance maternal delivery of infants and ensure safekeeping of all related medical equipment.
Commissioning the new structure, the Commissioner II, Lagos State HealthService Commission, Dr. Bolaji Olukoya, appreciated the gesture and commended the club on behalf of the State Government, adding that the Club has contributed tremendously towards the growth and development of public hospitals in the State.
He said, “Today is a big day. The State is celebrating and proud to associate with the Rotary Club of Omole Golden because their gesture is in tandem with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration and gives credence to the fact that every life, both infants and adults, matters. The Club can be said to be truly golden in its actions and with what we can see on ground, we cannot but charge other clubs to emulate them”.
While assuring the gathering that the edifice and all equipment in it will be put to good use and maintained by the resourceful staff in the hospital, Dr. Olukoya averred that additional medical professionals will be recruited to boost the manpower capacity of the hospital.
On his part, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Olusola Amure expressed delight as he showered prayers and encomium on all Rotarians of the district.
Acknowledging the crucial roles played by his predecessors in the actualisation of the structure and number of incubators available in the hospital today, he alluded to the fact that the death of two sets of twins once recorded in the hospital spurred the entire team of the hospital and Rotary Club of Omole Golden into action.
Dr. Amure stated that “The Maternal and Child Centre (MCC) started with just two incubators but today, through the efforts of the State Government, Rotary Club of Omole Golden and other partners, we have eight functional incubators. So you can imagine what our future plan for the edifice will be”.
Speaking on behalf of his fellow Rotarians, the President, Rotary Club of Omole Golden, Rotarian Ali Hassan Ogwu, said one of the core values of the club is to remain committed to serving humanity, promising that the club will always extend such interventions to every society where humanity will continue to benefit.
Rotarian Ogwu highlighted the reason for embarking on the project and plans to ensure its functionality, hinting that the building is a solution to the safekeeping of all the equipment that have been donated and those that are still coming.
In his words: “Our aim is to touch lives and bring succour to the less privileged in societies. The project is in two phases. The first phase is to put up the structure, which we are dedicating today, and the second phase is to fully equip the building for optimal performance”.
“The equipment should be ready for commissioning as well in no distant future because our international partners are ready, and we are delighted to also inform this gathering that the club will be responsible for the training of staff that will be manning this equipment, as well as their maintenance for at least a year”, he added.
