HEALTH SERVICE COMMISSION TEAM VISITS SOMOLU GENERAL HOSPITAL

… Pays Similar Visit to Ebute-Metta General Hospital

The Chairman, Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, has visited the Somolu General Hospital, commending the recently appointed Medical Director/CEO, Dr. Saliu Oseni, on the transformation taking place at the facility despite the constraints faced by the management.

Dr. Onayiga spoke during the inspection tour of the facility’s temporary site, expressing confidence that more changes are in the offing going by the track record and recent innovations already put in place, as well as the excellent leadership skills that have so far been demonstrated by the Medical Director.

She said the inspection tour was in line with the Commission’s mandate to supervise the activities of all public health centres, assess the provision of quality healthcare services to residents of the community, and ascertain the level of progress as well as development at the hospital while encouraging members of staff to continue delivering quality service to clients.

In his remarks, Commissioner I, HSC, Dr. Olumuyiwa Solanke, applauded the efforts of the Medical Director for improving the welfare of workers since assuming duties, pointing out that the foundation of the desired success by any organisation is rooted in the well-being of staff. 

Dr. Mobolaji Olukoya, Commissioner II, HSC, praised Dr. Oseni for hitting the ground running and living up to the recognition accorded him some years ago as the ‘Most Hard Working Consultant’, positing that as a union member he has always demonstrated the valuable character of listening and dialoguing to resolve lingering issues.

The Permanent Secretary of HSC, Dr. Benjamin Eniayewun, congratulated the Medical Director, management team and staff on their modest achievements so far despite all challenges faced by the facility.

His words: “I salute the resolve of staff and management to keep the hospital going in the face of daunting challenges. We are proud of your recent achievements and wish you more successes in the future”.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Medical Director/CEO of Somolu GH, Dr. Oseni, said upon assumption of duties 24 days ago, he took stock of the situation on ground that necessitated carving out some departments such as surgery, paediatrics and medicine for a better structured General Hospital.

He also revealed that the hospital has started to run clinics for all types of surgery with the first set of surgeries carried out recently, stressing that the plans are ongoing to address the constraints being faced by the management such as inadequate personnel and space as well as electricity problem, among others.

Oseni, however, expressed satisfaction that the two mini-projects embarked upon a week ago are nearing completion, and would decongest the crowded waiting area and Antenatal clinic, adding that an enhanced welfare package is also being worked out to appreciate the dedication of the workforce.

Similarly, the Lagos State Health Service Commission members also visited Ebute-Metta General Hospital as part of its monitoring exercise to ascertain the level of progress and development at the hospital.

Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, speaking during the visit, commended the members of staff for their dedication and commitment to duty despite the ongoing rehabilitation work at the facility, acknowledging their contributions to the development and progress of Lagos State, especially in the health sector.
