DIRECTOR, PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES-Mr Segun Onakoya
Pharm. Segun Onakoya attended Obafemi Awolowo University where he bagged Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree.
He joined the services of Lagos State Government in 1992 as Grade One Pharmacist under the defunct Hospital Management Board and was posted to General Hospital Ikorodu.
Ayinke House in General Hospital Ikeja was the next point of deployment in 1994, from where he was then mandated to set up the Department of Pharmacy in General Hospital Ijede in 1996 . He also served in Onikan Health Centre and Apapa General Hospital from year 1998 to 2003.
He was transferred to Hospital Management Board in 2003, where he was an integral part of the transition to the Health Service Commission.
When posted to General Hospital Ikorodu in 2008 he participated actively in the dynamic transformation of the Hospital and with the Department of Pharmacy being adjudged one of the best, culminating in the Hospital carting away all the available awards in 2015
His quest for best practice propelled his determination in ensuring that an unwholesome medication was recalled and removed from the Nigeria Drug Index. This was duly acknowledged by NAFDAC and earned him a letter of Commendation from Ministry of Health through the Honourable Commissioner.
He holds a Master’s Degree certificate (MSc) Pharm.Chemistry from University of Lagos.
Pharmacist Onakoya is a member of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria where he bagged prestigious medal of Merit Award Winner in Lagos State. Also a member of the Nigeria Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists in Americas (NAPSSA) where he actively engages the Diasporas on need to entrench international best practices and enhance the capacity of our professionals.
He was appointed Director of Pharmaceutical Services Health Service Commission in 2020 while serving in General Hospital Epe.
Pharmacist Onakoya is a Christian and he’s married with children.
